Wow. You wonder sometimes if the comic publishers of the 1950s weren't deliberately tweaking the censors of the time, trying to see how much they could get away with. Certainly, the spicy, still-provocative photo cover of this cult classic got attention, being prominently mentioned in Dr. Frederic Wertham's infamous industry-busting tome Seduction of the Innocent .
To this day, collectors and comics mavens are instantly drawn to this cheerfully racy slice of cheesecake. That shamelessly lurid cover (lifted from the 1948 paperback of the same name, aka House of Fury) actually belies the art within, which is wonderfully rendered as classic Everett Raymond Kinstler. The number of copies pulped by irate parents and outraged busybodies makes this an extremely rare treasure, a real grail for anyone collecting scarce Silver Age classics or iconic American pinup cheesecake. Whenever we have a copy of this book at conventions, we display it proudly, as it never fails to elicit a response from casual fans and connoisseurs alike.
