Mask Comics #1 offers a visionary cover that's established L.B. Cole as one of the most remarkable artists to work in comics of any era. Cole's bold, bright style would make him one of the earliest comic artists to be considered seriously by critics, employing a range of skills that he'd developed at the University of Berlin. That included Cole's visionary use of "poster colors" as primary colors against black backgrounds.

This quasi-psychedelic cover art for Mask #1 is a prime example, and remains one of the most sought-after books from the Golden Age. The cover for Mask #2 is equally impressive, but this issue holds a particular draw for serious collectors. The book has more than earned a well-deserved place among the most important issues of the Golden Age — as a true artifact that goes for staggering numbers even at lower grades.
