Captain America Comics #12 makes a big first impression with an impressively chaotic cover from Al Avison, as part of Timely’s typical competition between Avison, Alex Schomburg, and Jack Kirby to see who could outdo one another with their over-the-top concepts. Avison had a lot to work with here, too, as he showcases the interior story of "The Terrible Menace of the Pygmies of Terror!" with a miniature melee taking place on the table as Captain American and Bucky close in on the sickly-green Dr. Crime and his personalized purple cowl.

There's also a second Cap tale as Steve Rogers and Bucky help to save democracy in South America. The rest of the book is also beloved as a fantastic Golden Age romp by the fine folks at Timely, as Stan Lee steps in to pen "Introducing the Imp" (as a super-strong creature who lives in a guy's ear) and a tale starring forgotten scythe-slinging hero Father Time — and one more from Stan featuring dashing reporter "Headline" Hunter saving England from a Nazi chemical attack!
