'Highest Graded'
The San Francisco Collection, also known as the Tom Reilly Collection, is arguably the 2nd best pedigree collection ever discovered. In order for a collection to be a pedigree it must be an original owner collection in exceptional condition with solid runs of titles, or all #1 issues. Reilly amassed this incredible collection from 1939 to 1945 and in many cases the books are as nice as the Edgar Church copies. Identifying Friscos can be done by looking for the "Tom Reilly" stamp on the lower left corner of the back cover, or the arrival date is written in pencil with a "G" for Gilboy preceding it. Gilboy was the distributor where Reilly bought his comics. An interesting note to this collection is that many of the early books are not identifiable as Reilly left to fight in WW II in 1942 and that is when the books began getting marked.
This book is an incredible example of this pedigree. From its crisp, fresh look, to it's bright colors, gorgeous pages and tight structure, this copy is literally perfect in every way. This is the highest graded copy in the CGC census. |
